Are you planning to join the legion of fans expected to descend on Alki Beach to celebrate Sub Pop Records’ 30 years of music awesomeness?
The easiest way to reach the local label’s SPF30 event is to hop aboard the King County Water Taxi for a quick sailing to West Seattle (and back!).
The Water Taxi will add a second boat to its normal Saturday, Aug. 11, schedule to help carry thousands of fans to and from free concerts at Alki Beach in celebration of Sub Pop Records’ 30th Anniversary.
A seven-block portion of Alki Avenue Southwest will be completely closed to traffic for the iconic label’s SPF30 celebration, and some of the surrounding streets also will be closed or restricted.
So unless you prefer sitting in traffic instead of listening to great music, we suggest you leave your car at home and hop aboard the Water Taxi, which departs downtown Seattle throughout the day to Seacrest Park.
The Water Taxi accepts several forms of payment including ORCA cards, mobile tickets (Transit GO Ticket app), credit cards at the ticket machines on the dock (riders are encouraged to buy their return tickets on the way there) and cash on the boat using exact fare. Visit the Water Taxi’s website for more fare information. Riders should plan ahead for potential crowding on each sailing and travel early to make sure they arrive on time for the event.
Take in the sights – Elliott Bay’s blue waters, the Seattle skyline and Mount Rainier – as the Water Taxi delivers you to West Seattle in 15 minutes. Once the vessel docks, fans will be able to hop aboard a shuttle to the free, all-ages event along Alki Beach. The event is scheduled from noon to 10 p.m., Saturday.
And you can catch the Water Taxi back to downtown Seattle later that night. Simply return to Seacrest Park by 11 p.m., to be in time for the last boat of the night.
So if you’re planning on going to SPF30 and need a lift, just know this: King County Water Taxi is ready to rock and roll.
