Winter prep: New West Seattle sailing schedule starts Oct. 16; maintenance will temporarily suspend service Oct. 14-15

The West Seattle Water Taxi is preparing to launch its winter sailing schedule, which continues the popular service that riders have come to depend on seven days a week. As we pivot to the new schedule, we will say goodbye to some late-night weekend trips across Elliott Bay and temporarily pause service for a quick weekend of maintenance.

The Water Taxi glides at night through water reflecting city lights.

Temporary suspension Oct. 14-15

The water taxi team will spend this weekend performing maintenance on their vessels and the docks at Pier 50 and Seacrest in preparation of the start of a new season. Friday, Oct. 13, will be the last night to travel from downtown Seattle to Seacrest Dock on Alki between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. until the new schedules start up again next spring.

Transit options available during the weekend closure include:

Buses

  • King County Metro RapidRide C Line , RapidRide H Line and Route 21 connect West Seattle to downtown Seattle. These routes use a bus stop in downtown Seattle close to the King County Water Taxi’s Pier 50 terminal at Alaskan Way and Columbia Street.
  • The RapidRide C Line also connects riders to the Washington State Ferry Fauntleroy Terminal, which serves Vashon Island.
  • Metro Route 128 connects the Admiral District, Morgan Junction, High Point, Delridge, South Seattle College and White Center.
  • The free Metro water taxi shuttles to and from the dock at Seacrest Park will continue to run during the weekend. Route 773 serves the West Seattle junction. Route 775 serves the Admiral District and Alki.

Link light rail

  • Metro Route 50 connects West Seattle – including North Delridge, the Alaska Junction, the Admiral District and Alki Beach – to Link light rail at SODO.

Information

Starting on Monday, Oct. 16, the winter sailing schedule starts with seven-day-a week service between West Seattle and downtown. No winter hibernation, the taxi will operate year-round with midday and weekend sailings.

During commute hours, riders can take the free Metro shuttles to and from the Water Taxi landing at Seacrest Park. Route 773 serves the West Seattle junction and Route 775 serves the Admiral District and Alki.

The seasons may change, but the water taxi doesn’t– it’s a great transit choice every day. We look forward to seeing you on board.
