Water Taxi triples typical ridership, carries 1,200 riders to West Seattle after tanker overturns on I-5

watertaxi_westseattleAlthough an overturned fuel tanker turned some of Seattle’s busiest roads into parking lots Monday, King County Water Taxi delivered (lots of) West Seattle riders home congestion-free.

The Water Taxi carried 1,200 riders on Monday’s evening commute. The typical number of riders for the route during a Monday evening commute last February was 366!

What made this past Monday evening’s surge in ridership even more remarkable is our crews were able to get everyone who was waiting for a trip to West Seattle onboard by the final scheduled run at 6:45 p.m.

A huge “kudos” for our crews on the water and shore side for accommodating such a large surge in riders. And thanks to our riders for being patient while we kept people moving!
