ADA Enhancements to Passenger-Only Ferry Terminal

This past week was World Braille Day and 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). To celebrate, we are taking you on a tour of the ADA enhancements available at the new passenger-only ferry terminal at Pier 50 thanks to a video produced in partnership with Kitsap Ferries. From tactile walkways for people who are visually impaired to wide aisles that accommodate wheelchairs, we designed this facility with independent travel in mind.

Enhancements include:

  • Tactile pathways that navigate visually impaired riders to an area where someone can provide assistance instead of the main entry point;
  • Braille at ticket vending machines and high-contrast signage;
  • An ADA alert button to summon onsite crew; and
  • Wide aisles to accommodate wheelchairs and level ground to help wheelchairs stay balanced.

King County Water Taxi is proud to support the independence of all riders. Bon voyage, everyone.
